TOPIC: Electronic Keyboard Recommendations?

Electronic Keyboard Recommendations? 2 Years, 7 Months ago
I am interested in purchasing a new electronic keyboard. Does anyone have suggestions for me? I've owned a Yamaha Motif ES6 that I could never figure out how to use (especially the sequencer), an Ensoniq E-Prime 88-key that felt like it weighed about 80 pounds and didn't have very good piano sounds. I've also owned a Technics KN1400 with an easy to use sequencer and disk drive that I've been very happy with, but it's dying -- and it's only 61 keys.
So, any suggestions on an outstanding 88-key, portable, on the lighter side with great piano sounds (good attack, clean, Bruce Hornsby kind of sound)? It does not have to have a multi-track sequencer in it. Thank you for any suggestions that you may have. Thanks.

Check out the Nord Stage 88... medium weighted hammer action with a great feel. It has some sweet piano sounds (grand/upright...) along with a great selection of retro stuff (Rhodes, whirlitzer...). Also has an organ section featuring 3 classic models (Hammond B3, Farfisa V-type & Vox Continental V-type)... and a synth section with subtractive, FM & wavetable synthesis.

Very user friendly... no sequencing... great for live and studio applications.

Definately worth checking out...

The other one I'd check is the Roland RD700sx stage piano. I have an 88 key roland midi controller which has the same weighted keys as the Rd700sx. I just LOVE the feel of the keys on my roland and I've played a 700 on occasion and the key weighting is terrific...plus Roland has great piano sounds.

I'm going to chime in in agreement here. The RD700sx is fantastic!
I love Roland, they make kb's that have the FEEL of the real thing.
This always makes for a better performance and, as you said, the sounds are terrific.
Definitely check that out but be sure to play it first and sample the sounds...

There's nothing like the Fantom X8! It should be perfect...except, doesn't seem to be very portable...mmm...though, the sequencer is great (much more user friendly...I know what you mean about the motif, sequencer is wierd) and the weight is awesome (88keys) along with great piano sounds...I've got the FANTOM X7, and it does great!
Peace,
