Yeah, i had almost the same problem when i was studying for my classical guitar exams.
Suddenly a small "bump" appeared on the top of my wrist and i freaked out plus i couldn't stretch my fingers.

This usually happens after a lot of practice and no warming up, because your hand gets tired and problems arise !

I would suggest you a warming up before any session or practice or study and meanwhile rest your hand.

Mine, after two weeks it magically disappeared, but i had to stop the shredding for this time , just playing very simple stuff !!

Go to your closest musician clinic and at least start with anything tension relieving ASAP so it doesn't get worse.

Massage Therapy, Occupational Therapist, Laser Therapy, Physio Therapy.

Do some yoga. Relax...watch tv.

A local guitar teacher here in the OC, who has a music studio, plays in bands and practices a lot just sent me an email touting something called the ParaSpa, a paraffin bath machine. He swears by it. I Googled this and have heard nothing but good reports. Other companies make these, I am going to do a little more research and invest in one for my overworked guitar hands soon. His studio is called Premier Music in Orange, California, but not sure if the info is on his website. He also advised stretching. If you need more info, I could email you what was sent to me. Have fun!

I'm a keyboard player with a touch of arthritis in the finger joints, and I couldn't play without my paraffin bath for my hands. I have a Homedics brand model that I bought at a Home and Kitchen type store. I use it morning and night, before I play.

You basically dip your hands into melted wax for a second. You progressively add layers. The instructions say to slip your hands into plastic gloves, but I skip that.

I just peel off the wax (like a glove) after it hardens and cools a bit. If necessary, I repeat.

It's potentially a bit dangerous (since it is about 3 lbs of covered hot wax). Beware if you have small children. The sturdy plastic bath (with thermostat) sits on my kitchen counter and it's on 24/7. The initial melt of the wax takes about 12 hours.

If it's used by only yourself, you can reuse the wax for months ... just tossed the cooled, used "gloves" back in the bath.

I cannot recommend this enough for any musician that experiences joint pain or soreness in the hands. Just take care and read the instructions. I hope this helps.

As a Guitarist and a drummer, I know how painful this can be sometimes. I purchase those stress balls at a local pharmacy and use for hand exercise. This helps quite a bit
