i just got tired of using books recently and find it difficult to play a good solo of my taste on my drumset despite the technics and skills have gathered over the years. what do you think i can do?

spend a full year playing every day with any group regardless of payment, just to keep you alive in music, you need to pour out what you learn for some time before you can swallow more music or theory, just play!!!as much as you can, playing will get you through that barrier, take it seriously though, any situation is as right as the big step, so go ahead man play.....ed 8)

Pick up a new instrument, and monkey around on it for a while.

You can think outside the box... Man the way you talk I see you want to do solo's "your way." That's how it should be.. Use "your" brain to create drum solo's and your ears. I would say that the best drummers... don't know a whole lot about the technical aspect of music.

michael,
Go back to the reason why you studied drums, what made you decide to play drums and play solo! The records/tapes/cds are still the best teacher!Theories are foundations in playing but dont forget the heart! That beautiful feeling when you play the drums. Let go of the rules and theories. Play from the heart!
