Hey Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone had any experience touring that involved Atlantic City NJ. I'm considering moving there based on the advice from my dad's old piano teacher. He claims Atlantic City is one of the major drop off and picking up points on tours for musicians. Unfortunately I really don't have much to show for a resime, but I planned on finding a band and playing my heart out till I get somewhere. Another problem I might encounter is my age since I'm only 19. If anyone could share any experiences involving that city in particular that would be great. I want to make sure I'm making the right move before I pack my bags and go. I currently live in central Northern Jersey(aprox 45 mins from NYC) but I'm afraid the city is a little too exspensive and there's probably a lot more competition my age in NYC than Atlantic City.

First off what instrument do you play? piano? Atlantic city is rough meaning drug dealers hookers bad people.my brother lived there and hated it cause you have to be careful all the time... he is in his early 20s and not a wuss and HE thought it was tough... think about it your going to be gigging late at nite...id say NYC is safer than AC!!!!! .there are good opportunties but you need to join the union down there. Its from what my teacher told me $1000 a year ... alot of musicians retire to a job playing in casinos and they dont let go of that gig..the work is in the casinos and that can get boring and you have to be a great sight reader ...i know dudes that went to University of the arts in Philly and AFTER they graduated they go some gigs in AC....
Im from NJ and decided to go to Boston... You may think about boston there are alot of young people and its a safe city with more than enough opportunities for you to get ready for new york..... good luck... peace
