Am indie label, have gat artist and its very hard for me to run a good PROMO for my artist, talking of music in nigeria,things is very hard,and havebenn trying to break this market, even by me shooting a good video i still can break into the market......Don't really have money, but with little have got and the song have got i know i can break the barrier......
Please at the moment have just finish with my artist new single
I want to run a good radio,press conference anything to get the know especially the song, But if anybody have any advice they can help on how to go about this
I really want help on this issue,because i have a good plan if i can break the market,plus i don't know if i can get an internaional distributo to help or listning to the album if they can market the product

Hello! Im from Guatemala and for me it's difficult also because I live in a country without music industry. I've been working as an independent pr agent for three years now and I think I'm still trying to break up the barrier you mention. I work with local bands, we don't have formal record labels. Bands have to invest themselves in their projects, that's why I have to work with low budgets. I worked as a dj also so I met people in other radio stations and when I left, and I had to work with my first artist and single, it was easier cause they already knew me.

Radios did not pay attention at the beginning but if you have a good plan and good single they will.

Im not an expert that's why Im studying here hehe but I can tell you what I do having a similar market.

You have your first single, but you will have a cd right?
Do you already have your press kit? (pictures, a good photo session helps you a lot, info, everything that help you introduce your artist?) The image you want for him or her? The internet page ready? or facebook, myspace? I dont worry about a video clip cause we dont have video channels here at the moment.

I just want to know about it so I can have an idea in what part of the process you are standing now

Thanks alot for your message,have gat a press kit, we already have page on facebook.myspace, but still yet to break the barrier is something hard, even with good product,D.j's find it difficult to play artist song, especially if you don't give them money they will not play your song, even if you pay them, they will play it for just 1week after they will stop waiting for another money......
but all i want is exposure, just to get marketer to sell my artist album to them, because they will not pay you if you don't run a good promo yourself, plus we have artist they are playing their song ,but people are not buying their album and thats a big problem, right now cost of video is 2much and i don't know the best a way i can run a good promo and i will not spend alot of money........
corruption is really a big problem and the government is not really helping at all

pages on the internet is good but not a press...
one of the things that i have learned in music publishing 101
is to create a hype and impact ... that means ...
to send your artist/writer to conferences in the industry (Billboard ,ascap etc...)
send to the local newspapers an EP and also to the radio ...etc...
and to any other place that you think can promote your artist...
depending on your market ...

now you need to make it all happen in a period of two to three weeks
like your artist will be in the local news at 10/05/09 and then at 12/05/09 he will be at the radio station on an interview and then in a conferences of billboard and so on ...
and then suddenly your artist will be every were at the same time...
this kind of things create hype and probably some one will pay attention ....

don't forget raise up your artist and you will get your benefits later on...
