TOPIC: Publish a new arrangement of a standard?

Publish a new arrangement of a standard? 4 Years, 5 Months ago
Hi,

I've created a new vocal arrangement of a well-known standard. I'd like to sell the arrangement to vocal ensembles across the US. Is this a reasonable plan, as long as I can secure a license from the song owner?

In this case, the publishing rights are held by Warner/Chappell. They have a neat online License Request form, but I don't understand what type of license I need. It looks like I can request a license for "Print Media"... but I'm not sure if that would cover the distribution of my new arrangement in sheet music form, and I want to understand what I'm talking about before I submit anything.

Also, a local choral director has referred me to a popular site that sells arrangements to vocal groups, which seems like an appealing way to handle marketing/distribution -- but again, I'd like to know what I'm doing before I talk to them.

Am I on the right path here?

Thanks,
- Cliff

Hi Cliff!

What you need is permission to "print" ... Alfred Publishing administers Warner/Chappell's print rights ... you can contact them at permissions@alfred.com ... good luck!
