Need help with SONAR 5.0 5 Months ago
Just installed it from a friend. Can't even get it to record. I'm suing a USB microphone, but the "Record" button seems indisposed (unclickable). Can anyone hepl me? How can I get it to record in the first place?

Ignacio

Do you have any drivers installed? I use an SPS-25 interface. You load the drivers from the disk. This is what shows up for me under drivers. Choose ASIO for Audio input, midi for midi.

You have to exit and restart Sonar for these changes to take effect.

Once this is one, you need to select a track and go to Insert>Audio> Soft Synths. Make sure your input and output settings are correct (I choose SPS-25).

Sonar has a lot ot offer. It comes with may plugins. Just right click on the effects square in track view and choose any of the plugins.

To bring in audio or midi files, use the import command.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for your help! I did what you said. I don't have an interface yet (didn't know I had to have one for Getting Your Guitar Sound), but in the meantime I'm currently trying to record through a USB microphone and a normal jack microphone. The "Recording" button is still disabled.

I'm currently looking at interfaces for guitar connection. If you have any recommendations, they'd be welcome!

Again, many thanks,
Ignacio

It sounds like you are using SONAR without configuring it. You have to tell it what audio drivers you are using. You have to configure this globally, and also for the individual track you want to record on.

To configure it globally, go into the audio options. There are several options and you have to get them right. At the very least, you need to pick your sound card from a drop down menu. If there is an "easy button" in this case, this would be the "wave profiler". When you click it, it will analyze your sounds card. That should have run however automatically when you installed the software.

Then, in the track you want to record on, you have to select your audio input (sound card your mic is plugged into) and audio output (sound card you speakers are plugged into). The choices you are given to choose from are the ones you specified globally in the Audio Options.
