TOPIC: Mackie Onyx 1620 and Pro Tools 002
#27651
Mackie Onyx 1620 and Pro Tools 002 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Currently I’m running 8 mics through my Mackie Onyx 1620. I connect to Pro Tools via a db-25 connector. Here’s the problem with this set up. All of my inputs are pre-fader and I can’t engage any EQ from my board. I only have gain control. Apparently this is the same problem when using the fire wire connection from the Mackie.

Is there a way to hook up the board and have all eight tracks separated and use the EQ?
Please note: although no board code and smiley buttons are shown, they are still usable.

I don't see a way with that board. The inserts are pre eq so that will not work. You could use a combination of aux sends and main outs to get 6 channels.

I've got an ONYX with firewire too, and have researched this issue. It's not actually a problem, just a misconception. The professional method of recording, is to record a dry signal, and only add effects in post production. It's very traditional, and Mackie designed this mixer around common recording practices.

One way to get around this, is to record the post fader stereo mix. You can't record individual tracks this way, but the Perkins EQ is mixed in.
