TOPIC: Live Looping?

Live Looping? 8 Months, 1 Week ago
Hi Everyone,

I was hoping someone could help me out with this. I'm looking for a way to be able to sing a sample and be able to loop it, while I create (sing) another sample, which I would then sing over again. The effect would be that of harmonizing with myself. I was hoping to be able to have around 10 samples that I would be able to trigger off and on. It would be great if I could do all of this live! The artist that comes to mind who also does this is KT Tunstall when she performs "Black Horse and a Cherry Tree". Eventually, I'd not only like to be able to do it live, but also hook it up to a computer to record and produce it.
Sorry for my ignorance, but I cannot figure out what software/equipment I would need to set this up. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Alex

Hi Alex, i just saw your post, don't know if you already sussed this out but....I normally use Reason to loop in live situations, I find it very reliable for live use. I believe there is a software add-on called Hammer, which lets you input vocals to reason via de the rebirth machine.

Worth taking a look at. Good luck!

Hi Alex,

If working with computers on stage has taught me anything, it has to be *don't rely on them*. If you can avoid using computers onstage, that would be better. Have you considered using a loop pedal? That's what most guitarist and vocal artists are using for the kind of effect you're talking about. I'm not sure all of them will handle 10 simultanious voices though, but I'd definitely recommend using a pedal instead of a computer.

Here's a few suggestions:
Boss RC-20XL (handles 11 voices at once)
DigiTech Jam Man Loop
Boss RC-50
TC Electronic G System Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal

Hope that was any help

Here is a link to a footpedal setup from Akai: www.akaipro.com/content201302

If you're looking to use a computer as well, look into Ableton Live 8 which has a Looper utility for exactly what you are looking to do. You'd just need a laptop and a decent mic (and perhaps a decent sound card or outboard audio interface) and a basic footswitch and you're good to go! Check this Youtube link:
