Yo wah gwaan my music family. B) . Im gonna share some more backstage info. After you've prepped your mind and body, take a few things into consideration, backstage can be a great networking hub, whether it be a small club or big festival. I have noticed however, at the big festivals, you have alot of company reps who have been invited by their artists. To come hang out, bring new gear and most importantly (to me)bring their family and enjoy the sound of the gods, Music. Anyway, Who are these representatives? you may ask. EVERYBODY you want to know. Fender, korg, MusicMan, Akai etc. These people are very important to the industry, and musicians are important to them, because the great musicians take the products around the world in a real time advertisment. Encouraging consumers to buy and setting the trend of 'what is' the industry standard of the time, which seems to change overnight these days :-D .grasp this concept of scratch my back, i scratch yours between companys and musicains. Dont forget to practice so companys even get interested, it all comes back to you.
There is also knowledge galore backstage, if yu think yu bad, there is ussually always somone backstage who is 'nastier' than you you should say hi to, in jamica we say hail up, or pay respects. This all boils down to meeting people and knowing the players backstage, Not the groupies , WAKE UP!! :-D The real players are the company reps, great musicans, press, and different people who can make your music career much brighter. ok. so jah love to all, maximium respec to all mi musical youths! Please send a message. And share your backstage rituals and tips.

Currently I’m running 8 mics through my Mackie Onyx 1620. I connect to Pro Tools via a db-25 connector. Here’s the problem with this set up. All of my inputs are pre-fader and I can’t engage any EQ from my board. I only have gain control. Apparently this is the same problem when using the fire wire connection from the Mackie.

Is there a way to hook up the board and have all eight tracks separated and use the EQ?

Hi Jeff, I just turned 60 and I am on my 3rd online class with the guitar series. I have only played 5 years. It took some adjustment at first with a major committment with time but once you figure out a practice regiment it gets easier to manage. You will discover alot of things. How you learn, magic of repetition (practice) vs muscle memory, and how better you begin to play and the motivation to turn in assignments as best to your ability etc. The online method Berklee has developed really works. THe instructors have been great. I don't think your ever to old to play music. Very awesome and cool fun. cheers :)

Hi Rick,
Yes, John Mayer did go to Berklee for just a few semesters, in 1997,98. He recently did a clinic on campus and the videos were available for a while, check youtube for "John Mayer Berklee Clinic" they're worth watching esp. if your a Mayer fan.
Cheers,

My band, The Art of Attraction, needs to get more shows. We've played around the boston area, but we need some sort of booking agent to get us regular shows and hopefully get and east coast tour going in the spring with a couple other bands. Does anyone know either a couple of good booking agents or a place where I can find ones that actually book bands and not weddings and corporate outings?

Hi Clark,

Thanks for your post. This is Liam McCormack - I am a Student Advisor here at Berkleemusic.

I can understand you are looking for some direct student feedback with regard to your forum post, but I just wanted to add my thoughts from an Advisor perspective as well.

I do consider the Jazz Guitar 101 course to be one of our more advanced guitar courses - as jazz harmony in general is rather complex and playing jazz certainly presents its own unique challenges, when compared to playing in other styles.

The prerequisite information for the Jazz Guitar 101 course reads:

"Completion of the Berkleemusic online courses Guitar Chords 101 and Guitar Scales 101, or equivalent knowledge, is required. Guitarists should have at least two years of playing experience and the ability to play various scales and chords on the guitar. Guitar tablature and some chord blocks, in addition to traditional notation, will be used throughout the course."

I would encourage you to check out the Syllabus for the Chords and Scales courses here:
http://www.berkleemusic.com/school/course?course_item_id=1737637&tab=4370307&program=guitar

http://www.berkleemusic.com/school/course?course_item_id=7837110&tab=7842167&program=guitar

If you are already familiar with many of those topics, comfortable playing in many positions on your fretboard, familiar with jazz theory and advanced chord shapes -- then I would say you are ready for the Jazz Guitar 101 course.

If you review all of that information and feel like there are some gaps in your knowledge, I would then recommend preparing for the Jazz course and taking a look at those other guitar course options.

Hope that information is helpful to you.

Please feel free to contact your direct Advisor, Leigh McLaren, at 617 747 6010 or advisors@berkleemusic.com - for any further questions!

Thanks Clark.

All the best,

Liam McCormack

Nice tips!

I'd have to especially agree with the one on making sure you don't hurt yourself- even the little ones can be a nuisance. I sprained my right ankle playing basketball the same week I had classical piano juries (damper pedal foot). More commonly I would jam my fingers before gigs, so I had to adopt the 'no sports within three days of a show' rule.

Yo whats up music lovers. Im going to share some things i picked up from touring with my dad as a youngster to touring with Damian Marley today....Everyone always says to me, "oh my god, you must have so much fun on tour" and really and truly the answer is yes,BUT, being on a tour is NOT a walk in the park with cotton candy. Be ready for ruff hours, injury, lack of sleep, bad people, bad vibes. If you don't treat your self right on tour, your gonna be sick and chances are you will pass out at some point(hopefully not on stage) :-D.
I remember my father saying, how important it is be in shape before tour, we would go jogging on a golf coarse near by, and i really enjoyed going. you gotta be in shape for tour ...but this can be a double edged sword, be careful not to injure your self trying to be in shape for tour.I learned this the hard way when i fell playing football and double fractured my shoulder, This happened the first day of rehearsal to go on tour with NAS. The possibility of missing the tour with my favorite rapper hurt alot more than the bone break, I remember leaving the hospital and going straight to rehearsal, i will never forget walking in to the rehearsal, my band members saw me in the sling and they looked like someone just died. I walked over to the bass amp and took the sling off and sat down and put the bass in my lap, and asked if they where ready. B) Dont hurt your self before tour
How you eat will be a factor also, on tour means 'on the go' , so we already know fast food is going to come to play. Try to eat as fresh and healthy, put food that is alive in you, instead of all the dead stuff(i cant say anything, cause i have the worst diet) But really try hard to take vitamins and eat healthy , or your gonna get sick. Vitamin C is good on tour, Wellness formula also is good.
This is an important one, Have respect for others. One tour the bus is your home and everyone around you is family. Arguments are bound to happen on tour, be ready to defuse the situation or even your self. Treat people right, and they will do the same (most or none the time) :-D
Last but not least, be safe , don't be a hero. take care of your self and your instrument , respect others and then you will have time to party, enjoy the screaming fans and enjoy this wonderful music we have been blessed to play. ;)
