The five-course Professional Studio Production Certificate begins with Critical Listening 1, which will help you recognize the importance of the mixing process through a combination of weekly training drills, analysis of classic recordings, and comparison of various mixing styles. From there, you’ll get a primer on recording, editing, and basic mixing techniques using Pro Tools – knowledge students can apply to any number of different software programs. Following that, students will become exposed to more advanced mixing and mastering techniques using Pro Tools, including parallel compression, reverb parameters and compression.
The program also covers in-depth production and mixing techniques for contemporary electronic music styles, including hip-hop, industrial, pop/rock, and house by exploring the capabilities of MIDI sequencing using Reason. Students will become adept at using Reason's rack of virtual instruments, effects, mixers, built-in sequencer and patching system, and learn the real-world production setups and techniques used by today's top producers. This 5-course program rounds out with Producing and Programming Drum Beats, which will teach you to compose and create drum beats using different types of MIDI controllers and techniques, as well as proper mixing techniques using time-tested EQ, compression, and parallel effects techniques.
