Eric Beall is the author of "Making Music Make Money (An Insider's Guide To Becoming Your Own Music Publisher)" and a respected music industry veteran, having held senior Creative posts at Zomba Music, Jive Records, and Sony/ATV Music. Currently, he handles A&R for Shapiro Bernstein, one of the industry's most venerable and respected independent music publishers. In his role as a music publishing executive, Eric has signed and developed top writers like Stargate, Steve Robson, Billy Mann, Steve Diamond, Richard Julian and many others. At the same time, in his role at Jive Records and Zomba Music, he has coordinated and directed Zomba writers in the development of material for Jive Records superstars like Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, and Britney Spears.
Prior to joining the executive ranks, Eric wrote and produced the pop hits "Nothin' My Love Can't Fix" for Joey Lawrence (Top Ten Billboard Hot 100) and "Carry On" for Martha Wash (#1 Billboard Dance Chart), as well as songs for Diana Ross, The Jacksons, Safire, Samantha Fox, Brenda K. Starr, and many others. He also co-founded Class-X Recordings, an independent dance label in New York.
Chris Horvath is the founder and creative director of Jamnation Music, a co-op for writers and musicians with an extensive publishing catalog of songs and underscore, much of which has been heard in popular films and television shows.
Horvath has scored various films, including National Lampoon's Gold Diggers, Smiling Fish & Goat On Fire, Unconscious, Saving Ryan's Privates, and Galore. His music has been featured in the films Two Ninas, Erin Brockovich, Just Visiting, and Whatever It Takes, as well as the television shows Extreme Makeover Home, Roswell, Scrubs, Alias, Providence, High Incident, Pretender, and FOX Sports. He also composed the themes for Trace Evidence, The Bill Engvall Special on Comedy Central, and Digimon, and has written music for national and international ad campaigns.
Over the years, Horvath has worked with many artists, including The Gigolo Aunts, Rock Of Ages Musical, Venice, Warren Hill, Bobby Brown, David Crosby, Jackson Browne, Trevor Hall, Ray Charles, College Boyz, Glen Maderios, Sheena Easton, and Atlantic Starr.
Horvath won a PIXIE award for Best iFilm Underscore in 2000. For his commercial writing, he won the Golden Clio Award and a London International Advertising Award, among others. Horvath has a bachelor's in music from the Berklee College of Music, where he received the Quincy Jones Jazz Masters Scholarship for Outstanding Composer/Arranger.
George Howard is an Associate Professor of Management at Berklee College of Music.
Additionally, Mr. Howard is the COO of Norton, LLC, the parent company of Wolfgang's Vault, Daytrotter, Concert Vault, and Paste Magazine. Mr. Howard managed the Grammy and Oscar winning singer/songwriter, Carly Simon, and advised Grammy and Emmy winning composer, Mark Isham.
Via his consulting firm, Mr. Howard has advised companies from the Fortune 500 (CVS/pharmacy), the Ivy League (Brown University), and the not-for-profit sector (Easter Seals) on strategy and technology.
Mr. Howard was one of the original founders of TuneCore (currently the world's largest distributor of music), and was the president of Rykodisc, which, at the time, was the world's largest independent label. Mr. Howard holds an MBA, a MA, and a JD (law degree). He lives with his wife and two children in Marblehead, MA, and Martha's Vineyard.
George has written a number of books on the music industry, including Getting Signed! An Insider's Guide to the Record Industry (Berklee Press) and Music Publishing 101 (Berklee Press).
Daniel Karns is the founder of Emergence Media, a New-York-based consulting firm specializing in new media, content acquisition, operations management, creative direction, and business development. His current clientele consists of music publishers, record labels, private equity companies, individual artists, and other celebrities.
Karns was formerly the founder and president of Streetlight Music Inc., an independent music publishing and production company. Streetlight owned and administered a catalog of several thousand song copyrights and sound recordings, in addition to having secured record deals for artists with labels such as Elektra, Def Jam, and Epic.
In 1994 Streetlight acquired and renovated the legendary former Record Plant studios, previous host to artists such as John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, AC/DC, and Elton John. Streetlight's studio division went on to earn several gold and platinum awards of its own, working with artists such as Jay Z, R.E.M., Pink, Erykah Badu, D'Angelo, Bowling For Soup, Mary J. Blige, Lil' Jon, Mos Def, Jimmy Webb, Fat Joe, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Prior to forming Streetlight Music, Karns was the general manager of Centerfield Productions, a New-York-based recording, publishing, and artist management company. Throughout his career, Karns has remained active as a musician, composer, producer, and engineer. He is a cum laude graduate ('88) of Berklee's Music Production and Engineering department.
