Prerequisites

Pro Tools 110 requires either successful completion of Pro Tools 101 (online or instructor-led version), or knowledge of Pro Tools fundamentals gained via self-study and experience:

• Understanding of Pro Tools session file structure
• Opening, navigating, and saving sessions
• Creating new tracks
• Assigning inputs and outputs in the Edit and Mix windows
• Using Mix window controls including volume, mute, solo, and pan
• Using the Zoomer, Selector, and Grabber Edit tools
• Using Slip and Shuffle Edit modes
• Using Transport window controls to play and record audio and MIDI

This course also requires a basic understanding of computers and their operations:

• Identifying the general components of a computer
• Using the mouse, standard menus, and keyboard commands
• Locating, moving, and renaming files and folders
• Opening, saving, and closing files
• Powering up/down and restarting

A basic understanding of digital audio, recording, and MIDI concepts is assumed:

• Disk-based random access audio recording
• Multitrack audio systems
• Basic mixing and signal routing
• Digital audio concepts (sample rate, bit depth, etc.)
• Basic MIDI systems

Please note that passing scores on both the 101 and 110 final exams are required for Avid Pro Tools operator certification.

Avid's Pro Tools 110 Official Courseware - Essentials of Pro Tools Training Manual is the official textbook for the second course of the Avid Training and Education Program. It provides step-by-step procedures for all of the techniques covered in the course, from systems configurations through more advanced audio and MIDI editing techniques, to Pro Tools mixing techniques. The included DVD-ROM offers tutorial files and videos, plug-in installers, and Pro Tools sessions. Please note items shipped to non-US territories may incur additional duties and import fees that vary depending on the country. The student is responsible for paying any of these additional fees upon delivery.

Software Requirements

• Pro Tools 10 (not included with purchase of course). Earlier versions of Pro Tools are not supported in this course.
• Windows 7 or Snow Leopard 10.6
• PC Web browser: Firefox 3.0 or higher, Internet Explorer 7 or higher
• Macintosh Web browser: Firefox 3.0 or higher, Safari 3.0 or higher
• Flash Player: current version
• QuickTime Player: current version
• Acrobat Reader: current version

Hardware Requirements

All students must have an audio interface compatible with Pro Tools 10. These include:

• any current Avid interface (Mbox family, 003, HD, etc.)
• any current M-Audio interface (Delta product line only compatible with Window-based systems)
• any former Avid or Digidesign interface (except the original first generation Mbox or Digi 001)
• any third-party interface that supports Core Audio (Mac OS) or ASIO (Windows)

An iLok Smart Key is required for authorization of all Pro Tools systems.

Additional Hardware Requirements

• Minimum of one microphone or electric musical instrument (guitar, keyboard, etc.); direct box may also be required (check audio interface specifications)
• MIDI keyboard, controller, or any instrument with a MIDI output, in addition to a MIDI interface if not integrated with your audio interface
• Monitoring via loudspeakers and/or headphones
